Mein Homeland, Mein Homeland

I am being very careful to use their content directly, making no allusions, so that you as readers understand the language the writers there are choosing and why.
Listen, I am no homeland security expert and I will never claim to be. I am, though, a language expert and that’s my whole deali-o. I am a trained reader and writer, and my degrees are all in how to write and persuade. There, I said it. I have chops in that field. So I know a thing or two about how the sausage is made, y’know?
When I got to page 133, the section written by Ken Cuccinelli, about Homeland Security, I had to pause a bit because there’s this sense of…urgency. The “primary recommendation” our guy Ken makes from the get-go is this: “that the President pursue legislation to dismantle the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).” That was something of a wow moment for me, given that a conservative predecessor, Bush, dreamt up the department in the first place.
I read on.
The idea here is that it hasn’t “gelled.” (Again, I remind you that quotation marks used means his word choice, not mine.) Ken argues that it has failed…
