The Rules Have Changed, There Are No Rules Now
I could write a lengthy opinion essay on why I think it is totally appropriate that Joe Biden pardoned his son Hunter. No one cares. But I think it is totally appropriate that Joe Biden pardoned his son.
I pardoned my son, for some of the same reasons, and for some different reasons.
It’s one hundred percent true that as soon as Hunter got clean, and changed his life, that in one sense his dad already pardoned him. He forgave him and loved him and set things right.
Children, adult children who are alcoholics and addicts do what seem to be unforgivable things, unpardonable things, but they are not unpardonable. We forgive them.
Every Christmas, my father in law gave his adult children and their spouses cash in those crisp bank envelopes. The amounts varied. Sometimes it was $50, sometimes it was $100. He gave his grandchildren money, too. For many years it was $20 per grandchild. It was a big family, more than twenty grandchildren, so a lot of cash. He took pride in handing out the envelopes each Christmas Eve, one by one when our family all gathered to celebrate the feast of the seven fishes.
