He Must Be Removed At Once

Section 8 of Project 2025 dives in to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. When I first came upon this, I must admit I was a bit taken aback. A whole section dedicated to things like NPR? For real? Yes, for real! There are two Sections 8 in the document, both dedicated to media, but the second Section is titled “Media Agencies: Corporation for Public Broadcasting” because it gets a special callout.

The author of this part is Mike Gonzalez, who also wrote The Plot to Change America: How Identity Politics is Dividing the Land of the Free. His primary focus in writing for the Heritage Foundation is in critical race theory and identity politics, so it comes as no surprise that public television drew his ire.

Gonzalez noted that every Republican president since Nixon has tried to take taxpayer funding away from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. All of those efforts have failed. Only Republicans have tried to do this. In Nixon’s White House, the then 35-year old Antonin Scalia wrote that society was being “confronted with a long-range problem of significant social consequences — that is, the development of a government-funded broadcast system similar to the BBC” (p246). I guess we were supposed to see that as noting that the BBC is a bad thing?
