Finish Him. Why the Sentencing Must Move Forward.
The soon-to-be two time president of the United States is pulling out all the stops in trying to delay or halt his sentencing on 34 felony counts in the hush money convictions he faced in New York. In a super-rush, his highly unusual request is an emergency appeal after New York already rejected his request to postpone his sentencing hearing that is set for Friday.
The pause is needed, according to his attorneys, to “prevent grave injustice and harm to the institution of the presidency and the operations of federal government.”
Umm…huh?
The whole thing would be over and done before the guy is sworn in, so what’s the dealio? And the judge has already said he gets it, no jail time, no biggie.
The would-be president is appealing his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records, saying it should be tossed right out the window because the Supreme Court, in July, said that former presidents are immune and have sweeping, overwhelming immunity (ugh, gag), for official actions. Trump was convicted of falsifying his business records when he paid Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about their affair.
This request is especially unusual because his criminal case isn’t fully resolved. Judge Merchan has thoroughly rejected Trump’s insistence on halting the sentencing…
