Here's the thing, Jeff. I did not know "exactly what his income was," and when we met and dated, he lived in a nice apartment, drove a good car, seemed to pay his bills on time.

In my experience with him, throughout our dating lives, there was no series of overdrafts, late notices, and unpaid bills.
