I Can’t Make Him Be A Good Father

So Why Do I Keep Trying?

I am ready to stuff another short stack of overdue medical bills into an envelope to mail to him…again.

Our daughter is fresh out of college, not even six months, and her health insurance is crap. She’s got a good degree, and a decent job but she is just getting started. Like so many millenials, her financial outlook is unsteady. Her dad is supposed to pick up when her health insurance doesn’t cover the gap. He’s supposed to make sure her credit doesn’t get damaged. But yet again, I’m sending reminders that the bills are late.

I’d just go ahead and pay them, but then I would be covering so much more. I already help her out with car insurance because, hey, that stuff is through the roof, and I would like her to be able to keep up with her student loans and still eat once in a while. But more importantly, he promised.

Then there was our son’s college move-in. He skipped that entirely. Because, well, he (dad) is a teacher, and that was the first day of school. He is a music teacher, so he didn’t have a classroom full of children.

Not to mention, we are now in the second semester of that freshman year. But we’re still waiting for a signoff on the student loan paperwork. So, for the second term in a row, the kid can’t register for classes. Can’t…
