I think that's partly true, Cosette, but also I think we'd listen if this advice is given not in the midst of a relationship but, say, given to our daughters and sons.

I think we're getting better, generation by generation, at telling it like it is.

We no longer marry for money or match, so maybe it's time, too, to tell our kids and our next generations that it's important to seek a real partnership.

Or maybe I'm a cockeyed optimist. Either way, I'll try.:-)
