ICYMI: The Gitmo Boys are Back

3 min readMar 14, 2025

You Won’t Hear the Trump Team Brag About it, But They Had a Return to Sender — Whoops!

Well….even though it allegedly cost $3.1 million to construct each tent, totalling $16 million to house migrant detainees at Guantanamo Bay, they are all back on American soil now, so that was a great way to spend US dollars.

Does DOGE know about this? Are we efficient yet?”

Turns out, the accommodations were not compliant, they lacked provisions for air conditioning and basic human decency given that the facility is in Cuba, where it’s, un, hot. The US has leased the land at Gitmo from Cuba since 1903 (under an agreement that Cuba still disputes, btw). Congresswoman Sarah Jacobs said she wasn’t surprised by the move to return all of the detainees, commenting that “it was clear that this ‘plan’ was too costly, complicated, inefficient, and cruel.” Yeah, Sarah, we could have expected inefficient cruelty from the Trumpers, amirite?

Trump had announced back on January 29 that 30,000 beds were ready at Gitmo for “the worst criminal illegal aliens threatening the American people. Some people are so bad, we don’t even trust the countries to hold them because we don’t want them coming back.” Well, Donald, looks like they’re back, buddy!
