Parks and Wrecked — Even the National Park Service Complies

And history gets Stonewalled.

The first time I took my son to visit New York City, I made sure he saw all the most important sites for a first-timer. We breezed by Rockefeller Center, marveled at Radio City and the lights of Times Square, we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and through Central Park to Strawberry Fields, and of course, we visited the Stonewall Inn. I couldn’t imagine taking my kid to New York without heading to 51 Christopher Street. Greenwich Village, and honoring a national monument to the gay rights movement was, I believe (and still do), as important to visiting New York City as visiting the Lincoln Memorial or Mt. Rushmore in teaching a kid about the history of our country.

In the days since the Trump administration took over, the systematic removal and erasure of language and representation for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer population has been disgusting and disappointing to say the least. The National Park Service has stood as a bulwark against some of the most despicable actions, just as they did in 2017, sending out a photo that clearly showed the real size of the inauguration crowd. They have a Twitter and Bluesky presence, Alt National Park Service, that has been keeping things ‘real’ by continuing to post truths to combat the disinformation. They’ve stood…
