Most of those other attributes are things I couldn’t have known then, like that he wouldn’t prioritize parenting, or be supportive when I pursued a college degree.
It’s not that I wanted or needed to “change” him, but rather that each of us should be able to expect that the other would be willing to grow alongside us. That was not the case for him.
